DRONE SEIZED, ARRESTS MADE NEAR COLLINS BAY INSTITUTION

(KINGSTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has seized a drone and arrested two people after intercepting a shipment of contraband at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.

On March 24, 2020 at approximately 4:00 a.m. members of the Penitentiary Squad, Kingston Police Service and Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) responded to suspicious activity near the penitentiary. Officers located a drone and arrested two individuals in the area. CSC officials also recovered a package within the institution walls. Along with the drone, investigators seized cannabis, cell phones, weapons, tobacco and other contraband items.

Two individuals from Sainte Anne des Plaines, Quebec are charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with Mischief – sec. 430. Their names cannot be released at this time.

The investigation by members of the OPP-led Joint-Forces Penitentiary Squad, which includes the Kingston Police and CSC, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is ongoing.
