A 29-year-old Brockville man is in hospital recovering from stab wounds after an assault late Saturday afternoon near the Centennial Youth Arena.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Brockville Police got calls about a disturbance at the intersection of Broadway and Davison avenues.

Two cars were stopped in the middle of the intersection and witnesses saw a man being beaten and knocked to the ground, police reported Sunday.

Witnesses who came upon the scene thinking there might have been a traffic collision “interrupted the assault and the vehicles fled the scene,” police added in a media release.

“The victim who was bleeding and holding his side made his way to a nearby residence on Davison Avenue, where paramedics were called and transported the victim to hospital,” police added.

The man was treated for stab wounds to his mid-section and held in hospital, said police.

Police had no further details of the incident, including the condition of the victim, when contacted around noon Sunday.

Investigators are asking for anyone with information, or who may have been in the area of the Youth Arena at Broadway and Davison avenues between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m., to contact the Brockville Police at 613-342-0127.
