DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) has charged two people following an investigation into the trafficking of illicit drugs.

On June 13, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., CSCU, assisted by patrol officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle at the eastbound 401 Enroute in Quinte West and arrested two occupants for drug trafficking. Following a search, a quantity of cocaine with a street value of approximately $7500, along with cellphones and cash were seized.

Bright OFORI, 27 years old from Toronto and Raphael SALAMI, 25 years old from Woodbridge have been charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine. Additionally, Salami has been charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.

Both accused were held in custody and were scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on June 14, 2022.
