THREE PEOPLE CHARGED FOLLOWING THEFTS

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three people following a report of a theft at a Trenton business.

On June 19, 2022 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a business on 2nd Dug Hill Road where two people had their bicycles stolen as they were in the store shopping. Officers reviewed the security footage and determined the alleged thieves were still inside the store. The accused partied were located and arrested, and following a search, various other items with a retail value of approximately $700 were recovered. Additionally, a concealed throwing knife was seized and one of the accused provided police with a fake name The bicycles were recovered nearby and returned to the owners.   

Shane MCFARLAND, 41 years old from Belleville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft under $5000 – two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with probation order; and
  • Breach of recognizance

Bradley HAMILTON-PROUD, 25 years old from Tweed has been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft under $5000 – two counts; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Brooke GIGNAC, 33 years old from Prince Edward County has been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Fail to comply with probation order; and
  • Driving while under suspension

All accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on June 20, 2022.
